Workshop Highlights Educational Opportunities in Health Security for the Mekong Basin

NTI's Global Health and Security Initiative, together with the University of Edinburgh, convened a workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from November 18-20, 2008. Faculty and health ministry staff from the Mekong region explored pathways to increase in-country human capital via mentorship, faculty training and degree offerings for frontline health workforce. A path forward will allow health professionals to effectively contribute towards improved health security of the Mekong Basin region and participate in global networks for coordinated health security action.

Graduate Scholarships Awarded to Mekong Basin Students to Advance Global Health Security in Cambodia and Laos

The Middle East Consortium on Infectious Disease Surveillance (MECIDS) has been recognized by the Computerworld Honors Program for its work to create a unique technology to enhance data-sharing and epidemiological surveillance. The Public Health Information Affinity Domain is a secure Web-based portal system that can help contain and minimize the impact of diseases throughout the region.
